Coastal Flooding Threat Quite Low With Upcoming Coastal Storm

While the upcoming coastal storm is likely to pack a punch – with some very strong easterly winds Monday afternoon into Monday night, the threat for coastal flooding around the Cape is unusually low thanks to some fortuitous timing with the lowest high tides of the year.

The Monday evening tide at Barnstable Harbor is only 8.2 feet – which is the 7th lowest high tide of 2017…out of 708.

To put that in perspective, the “King Tides” associated with the November full moon peaked at 12.45 feet(!!) so this storm would need to produce greater than a 4 foot surge to match those tides!
