This time last summer we were mired in a drought – with parts of Southern New England in the “Extreme Drought” category according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Hyannis recorded just .71″ of rain last August…with Chatham picking up a similarly paltry .83″.
Such is not the case this year. While precipitation wasn’t far from normal in June and July (slightly below average in spots), August has been exceptionally wet across the Cape. Many locations have seen 7 to 10 inches of rainfall this month. Here is a table of rainfall reports for August from the CoCoRaHS network:
