A chilly north wind Tuesday morning shifted around to the west and then southwest late in the day and strengthened over the area Tuesday night. As a result, temperatures held in the 40s Tuesday evening and actually climbed overnight as warm air flooded back into the region.
That warm air continues to push into the Northeast and New England this morning and is setting the stage for a very mild day today. Temperatures as of 7AM were already into the 50s and readings will continue to inch upward through the morning hours. Expect midday and early afternoon temperatures to peak in the middle and upper 50s across the Cape – with perhaps a few backyards registering 60F for a time.
A cold front will cut through the region during the afternoon and will cap the temperature-rise and gradually force readings downward late in the day. Colder air will filter back into the area tonight, with overnight lows in the 30 to 35F range by morning.
For comparison’s sake, the average daytime high for today at Hyannis is 49F.
