Along and ahead of this front, a band of showers and embedded downpours is making steady progress toward the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and will reach our area tonight, before sweeping out to sea on Wednesday.

Expect clouds to lower and thicken through the day today and for some light sprinkles or patchy drizzle to start to develop around the area this evening. As we move into and through the nighttime hours, a widespread band of showers and downpours will move through the area, departing not long after sunup Wednesday.

In addition to a period of wet weather, gusty south winds are anticipated across the Cape and Islands for a time later this afternoon and tonight. A few wind gusts to 35 to 45 mph are possible around the area.

Drier air will take hold on Wednesday as the front pushes offshore.
