Unseasonably mild air poured into the area on Friday and remains in place over our neck of the woods Saturday morning. However, a strong cold front is moving eastward across the region and will sweep offshore early this afternoon.
MUCH colder air is positioned just behind the advancing front, yielding an extremely abrupt drop in temperatures upon its passage and also making for some rather remarkable temperature differences over a short distance.
For example, as of 8:30 this morning, the temperature in Fitchburg, MA was a balmy 61F. Meanwhile, in North Adams, MA the temperature had dropped to 18F!
We can expect a similarly sharp drop in our temperature later this afternoon…with temperatures falling into the 20s this evening. Watch for slick spots late today and into this evening.
