Breezy, Muggy…Some Downpours and Thunder

A strong cold front is dropping southward through New England today and will push offshore this evening…scouring out the heat and humidity of the past week and replacing it with a very refreshing air mass for the upcoming weekend.

Prior to the front’s passage, we’ll have to endure one last day of very muggy conditions and we’ll have some wet weather to contend with.

Expect showers and thunderstorms to push into the region during the midday and early afternoon hours and for this activity to become more concentrated as the afternoon progresses. With so much moisture available in the atmosphere, some of the showers and storms will be capable of producing very heavy – torrential – rainfall in spots…which could cause some short-term street / basement flooding in a few unlucky spots. Likewise, some lightning strikes are possible around parts of the Cape this afternoon so use caution if out and about.

Strong gusty southwest winds this morning will shift to the north this evening.
