Showers to our south this morning will gradually advance northward and increase in areal coverage through the day today. Expect pockets of wet weather during the mid to late afternoon hours…transitioning to a more widespread rain as the evening nears and progresses.
With tropical moisture lifting toward the area, heavier downpours are likely to move over the Cape from time to time (beginning as early as later this afternoon) and as Dorian makes its closest pass to the region first thing Saturday, its shield of heavy rain is likely to clip the Cape. A widespread 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain seems like a good bet for the Cape.
That said, *if* the core of heaviest rains – which are currently expected to remain just south and east of the area – end up displaced a bit further north and west, higher rainfall totals on the order of 4 to 5 inches would be possible…which would lead to some pockets of street and basement-type flooding.
