Strengthening low pressure lifting up the Eastern Seaboard will pass west of Cape Cod and Saturday, bringing us a round of heavy rain and strong southerly winds.
While strong wind gusts (on the order of 40 to 50 mph) will be possible throughout a good chunk of the day on Saturday, we’ll have to monitor a short-lived period of time during the late morning to midday hours for the potential for stronger winds.
As the storm center nears and passes our area, a powerful southerly low level jet will develop and cross the region. At the same time, model guidance shows a small wave of strengthening low pressure passing just west of the Cape. The combination of these two features may allow for a an hour or two of wind gusts over 50 mph…with the potential for a few gusts upwards of 60 mph.
