CFS Outlook July 1, 2009

The July 2nd Climate Forecast System temperature outlook. A few new trends have developed in the last week to 10 days as we compare the July 2nd, 2009 CFS run to the previous outlook posted (June 22nd). While the model continues to display strong consistency over the last few months regarding a continuation of below normal conditions for much of North America through the summer and early fall months, it now shows a region of very strong positive anomalies in Northwestern Canada and across Alaska as we head into next winter. In fact, while the CFS points to a large area of below normal temperatures in the southern and eastern half of the lower 48 states, the model shows positive departures on the order of >+4K over Alaska next winter - which would be a stark contrast to this past winter which was very cold in much of the Frontier State. The next post will be on or around July 15th, 2009.
