Another in a series of energetic weather systems will swing through the Northeast and New England today and tonight, prompting additional rounds of showers, downpours and passing thunderstorms. This system is not too dissimilar to the one that passed over the area on Tuesday – which brought torrential rain, plenty of thunder and lightning and even a brief, weak tornado to Barnstable.
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has once again highlighted our area as a potential zone of concern for severe thunderstorms. The SPC has (again) introduced a low probability for a tornado in SE MA.
It’ll become more clear over the course of the day today as to whether this threat will remain in place tonight or shift slightly south of the region – which will be highly dependent up on the exact alignment of a number of atmospheric conditions. Monitor the radar through the afternoon.
