Thursday proved to be an unusually cold day around the region. Temperatures started the day in the 20s and really never recovered, with highs only in the upper 20s and lower 30s across the Cape. Hyannis topped out at cold 29F. While these kind of readings are certainly not unhead of for early December, it was the coldest day locally since last February and a far cry from December 7th last year, when the high temperature was 55F.
Somewhat milder air will creep back into the region today as the coldest of the air has shifted seaward. Afternoon temperatures will end up right around 40F under fair skies. Winds will bend around the southwest tomorrow and push readings back to 50 to 55F with a good deal of sunshine expected. Even milder air will surge northward on Sunday as temperatures climb well into the 50s (and likely approach 60F by Monday morning).
Unfortunately, with the arrival of the very mild air late in the weekend will come a strong storm system, destined to bring us some downpours and a period of strong and then damaging winds late Sunday night into the first part of Monday.
