A short-lived battle zone between advancing warm air from the west and a glancing shot of cold air sliding by to our east will set up a band of light precipitation over the Northeast / New England later today and tonight. The atmosphere will be just cold enough that this precipitation falls (initially) in the form of snow tonight and first thing tomorrow morning. Amounts look light so total snowfall should only be on the order of a coating to an inch but it doesn’t take much to cause slick spots on untreated roadways. Eventually warmer air will win out and precipitation will go over to rain Wednesday morning, with overcast skies and some off and on light rain and drizzle persisting through the remainder of the day. Another round of rain is likely Wednesday night and Thursday.
