March thus far has been a very mild month relative to average. Temperatures are running about 5.5F above average thus far at Hyannis…with a similar value at Boston (6.0F). While daytime temperatures haven’t been extraordinarily mild, nighttime temperatures have been unseasonably mild. We’ve only been below freezing a couple of times all month, with the coldest day coming March 1st when the morning low in Hyannis was 24F.
In keeping with the mild theme, temperatures will climb into the lower 50s today, yielding another day of solid positive departures. Unfortunately, if you’re enjoying the early season “warmth”, a chilly stretch of weather is on the way. A strong cold front will cross through the area tonight and usher in some rather cold air for the second half of the work week. Temperatures on Thursday and Friday will struggle to get to 40F and we should be solidly into the 20s Thursday night.
While somewhat milder air will return for the start of the weekend, the overall theme for the next week or so is going to be for some cool weather.
