Low pressure swirling across New England is deepening into a rather strong storm system for this time of year. Barometric pressure readings are falling below 990mb (29.23 inches) across the region as the storm intensifies overhead and its central pressure will continue to drop through the day – bottoming out in the low 980s. Unusually strong for the last day of May. As the storm pulls away from our area strong gusty southwest winds will develop this afternoon, with a short-lived period of gusts 35 to 45 mph likely later in the afternoon and into the early evening hours. You can see the swirl of low pressure very nicely on the looped visible satellite image. Also, note all of the smoke dropping into the country from wildfires in Canada.
