Filtered Sunshine, Cooler

A cold front slid across the region last night and ushered in some cooler air overnight. Initially, that approaching frontal boundary helped turn surface winds from the southwest to the west Thursday afternoon, which bumped temperatures that were stuck in the middle and upper 70s during midday into the lower 80s mid to late afternoon. Winds continued to veer around to the north overnight, signaling the arrival of cooler and drier air. With that in mind, we can expect a noticeably cooler feel to our weather today with readings topping out closer to 70F. A fair amount of passing high thin cloud cover and some residual haze/smoke will lead to filtered sunshine through most of the day. Unfortunately, clouds will thicken tonight and some shower activity is likely to roll into the area just in time for the start of the weekend.
