A cold air mass has built southward into New England and will linger over the region until the end of the work week. Readings on Tuesday held in the lower 40s and will likely stay in the 30s today and tomorrow. Friday should rebound into the lower to middle 40s…still a bit below average for early to mid December. Expect temperatures in the 20s and lower 30s tonight across most of the Cape – mildest on the Outer Cape where the northerly wind will persist through the night – and widespread lower to middle 20s on Thursday night.
In addition to the cold, the combination of some upper level energy and north and northeasterly winds has yielded plenty of cloud cover and some off and on snow and rain showers. Where temperatures have been just a couple of degrees colder – from Hyannis westward through the Upper Cape and into Plymouth County, bands of snow have been steadier and heavier…with some modest accumulation from the Canal into the South Shore.
