Swells from Hurricane Erin

Waves propagating outward from Hurricane Erin are reaching the shorelines of Southern New England. You can see the dramatic increase in average period swell over the last 48 hours – indicative of the large, slower moving swells moving through the region. A High Surf Advisory is posted for area beaches as the large, breaking waves often result in rip currents which are a (sometimes hidden) hazard to swimmers.
