Stormy Saturday Afternoon

If you have any outdoor projects to get done on Saturday – plan to wrap them up in the morning. A rather dynamic weather system by late May standards will cut southward through New England tonight and tomorrow. Out ahead of this storm, a period of showers is likely tonight. Those showers will be followed by a period of quiet weather Saturday morning as low pressure tracks directly over the area. In fact, for a few hours, there could be some partial sunshine and seasonably mild temperatures in the 50s and lower 60s. HOWEVER, during midday, low pressure will swing to our south and winds will abruptly turn to the north and northeast. With that wind shift, clouds will lower and thicken, showers and mist/drizzle will overspread the area and temperatures will fall to the 40s and lower 50s. Winds will ramp up through the afternoon hours, increasing to 20 to 30 mph with some gusts of 40 to 55 mph expected at times for a few hours. With fully-leafed trees, we should expect some pockets of tree and limb damage and probably some isolated to scattered power outages.
