A bit of a trade off for Monday. A weak frontal zone moved through the area Sunday and Sunday night, pushing the worst of the heat and humidity offshore for the time being. Dew points dropped back into the 60s overnight and will hold at that level through the day today (still somewhat humid but not terrible). Unfortunately, in exchange for the more comfortable air mass we’ve got a return of smoke-filtered skies. Big wildfires burning in Canada and parts of the Pacific Northwest have ejected tons of smoke into the atmosphere and that smoke has once again been transported eastward and infiltrated our skies. While this round of smoke won’t be nearly as bad as the episode in July, we can still expect a muted appearance to the sun/sky today vs a nice clear post-frontal blue. You can see the smoke on visible satellite imagery – it appears a thin hazy white across much of the region.
