Clear skies and light winds (and longer nighttime hours) allowed temperatures to free-fall overnight, with widespread 40s around the area to start Tuesday. Hyannis bottomed out at 43F and Martha’s Vineyard dipped all the way to 40F. The average nighttime low for this time of year is right around 50F – so it was certainly cooler than we might normally expect for early October.
However, despite the chilly start, Tuesday will end up quite nice with temperatures returning to above average levels this afternoon. The combination of a light offshore wind and plenty of sunshine will boost temperatures quickly into the 50s and 60s this morning, with readings passing 70F during the midday and afternoon hours. Afternoon high temperatures will end up in the lower and middle 70s.
