A strengthening low pressure system will pass near the Cape today and lift into the Gulf of Maine tonight, becoming a rather strong storm in the process. This weather system will yield yet another unsettled weekend around the area, with the worst of the weather focused today and tonight.
Expect off and on showers to pass over the region throughout the day today, with a few embedded downpours likely. Rainfall should average out around 1/2″ – though places that see multple downpours pass overhead could certainly see more than that.
In addition to the wet weather, strong gusty west winds will develop on the backside of the storm late today and into tonight. Wind gusts over 35 mph are likely and some gusts to 40 to 50 mph will occur throughout the evening and overnight hours. This could be enough to cause some brief power disruptions and some minor limb damage here and there – but it’ll mostly just a mess-maker.
You can track the showers on the Local Radar.
