Strong Winds This Afternoon

The National Weather Service has posted a rare late May High Wind Warning for the area. Developing/strengthening low pressure will yield a period of strong northeast winds this afternoon, starting first up near P-town late this morning and then spreading quickly southward across the area. From midday through mid-afternoon northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph are likely with numerous gusts over 40 mph. As the strongest core of wind rotates through pockets of wind damage will develop as northeast winds gust upwards of 50 to 55 mph at times. This time of year, anything above 40mph yields pockets of limb damage and speeds north of 50 mph are likely to take down a few larger limbs and trees around the areas. As a result, in addition to a mess of downed leaves and branches, expect some power outages in spots.
