Arctic air has spilled southward into the Lower 48 states and will remain entrenched across the eastern half of the nation for the next several days. Locally, our coldest weather is likely over the upcoming weekend when temperatures will hold in the 20s and nighttime lows will be well down into the 10s. But even before the coldest air arrives, the next several days will be quite chilly. Temperatures today will struggle to get back to 30F and highs Thursday and Friday will only be in the lower 30s. Factoring in Monday’s chill (high temperature on Monday was just 32F at Hyannis) and considering temperatures are not likely to recover until sometime early next week, this could very well end up as the coldest 7-day stretch of the winter season (February may very well have colder individual days but pulling off a longer period of colder weather may be tough). Some snow is likely Friday and Saturday – stay tuned on that.
