Beach Erosion / Minor Coastal Flooding

The new moon means a series of very high astronomical tides over the next several days. Thankfully, we’ll avoid any major nor’easters during this time period, which could have been a major problem.

Even so, minor coastal flooding and beach erosion will be possible during each tidal cycle between now and Wednesday. Of greatest concern is the region inside of Cape Cod Bay from about Wellfleet Harbor southward to Rock Harbor and then westward to Sesuit Harbor. Over the next 48 hours, strong northwest winds will develop and those northwest winds will result in building seas and a localized pile up of water at the time of high tide. While coastal flooding won’t be a major issue, multiple episodes of beach erosion along those bayside shorelines is probable.
