After record warmth earlier in the week, a cold front moved across the region Wednesday and ushered in cooler and much less humid air for Thursday and Friday. Highs yesterday were about 20F colder than Wednesday and will top out at similarly cool levels today (70F-ish).
As evident on the visible satellite image (with wind arrows overlaid) the cooler air has backed its way into the Mid-Atlantic as well, putting and end to their miserable heat for the time being. Over the course of the next 24 hours, low pressure passing well to our north will swing winds back around to the south and southwest, lifting Wednesday’s surface cold front northward as a warm front and scouring out the low level cool air over the region. The result will be climbing temperatures over the weekend, with highs in the 70s on Saturday and closer to 80F on Sunday. Temperatures look to remain at or above average levels from Sunday throughout next week.
