Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings are posted for a large chunk of the nation this week, as dangerously hot and humid conditions take hold. The worst of the heat for Tuesday and Wednesday is focused over the Ohio Valley…and those extreme conditions will build eastward into the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and New England for Thursday and Friday. For us here on Cape Cod, we will initially escape the worst of the conditions as a busy southwest wind off the water helps fight back the heat a bit. Consequently, while Wednesday’s temperatures will climb into the 90s off-Cape…readings should generally hold in the lower and middle 80s locally. We’ll add a few more degrees on Thursday but the worst for us is likely to come on Friday as winds slacken a bit and take on a more offshore component. I expect widespread 90s on Friday with heat index values north of 100F for much of the day. Plan accordingly.
