Some Needed Rain?

We’ve had a few bouts of isolated to scattered showers over the last several weeks but the hit-or-miss nature to the activity hasn’t amounted to much rainfall overall – which is not uncommon in the summer months. Good regional soaking rainfall can be tough to generate during the warm season as the atmosphere tends to lack many of the drivers needed to generate synoptic-scale (widespread) precipitation. But every-once-in-a-while the ingredients come together to bring some beneficial rains and that may be the case Monday into Tuesday. Guidance has been honed in on this early week time period for about a week now, signaling a good soaking rain across much of New England. As of right now, it appears as though the daylight hours of Monday will be OK weather-wise, as most of the steady rain should be focused to our north and west. Conditions are expected to go downhill late Monday and into Monday night, as wet weather shifts into our area. Lingering showers and downpours are likely to be around the area to start Tuesday (in fact, Tuesday morning might be the “best” opportunity for meaningful rainfall). Hopefully we all squeeze in a solid 1/2 to 1 inch of rain. As an example, the GFS Model (shown here) depicts some sizable 3-hr rainfall totals around the region Tuesday morning.
